Hooked Catherine Greenman Books

Hooked is a strange book – the synopsis hinted at a kind of epic romance and relationship between Thea and Will, and is one of the reasons why I picked it up in the first place. Coupled with the hook of teen pregnancy, I was ready to completely lose myself in it.

However, the relationship is totally devoid of any real romantic, or even other, kind of connection between Thea and Will. It felt really awkward – they meet, get together, Thea finds out she is pregnant and after deciding to keep the baby, they play at happy families. I also never felt like I really got to know the characters – they were pretty bland and unmemorable, apart from their bad points.

Will has very little loyalty or bond towards Thea or the baby. Obviously having a child was not yet in his life plan, but he pretty much uses any excuse to be negative and bordering on negligent towards both of them. He blames Thea for every little thing that goes wrong, and in fact when something does go quite terribly wrong he immediately turns on her. And yes, perhaps this is a realistic reaction from a character who has been forced into something by circumstance, but I just wanted him to man up and take some responsibility.

I was hopeful that Thea’s family dynamic would instead be the part of the plot that gripped and moved me, but despite the fact her parents are dysfunctional, it all felt a little over-blown and hyped up unnecessarily – sure, Thea’s father was a difficult character, but it’s not like there was a huge, intense blow-out between them, and he stepped in to rescue her without much drama at all.

Overall, Hooked was a disappointment for me – it felt like the characters were just going through the motions, there was very little emotion or drama and both Thea and Will were actually very supported, both financially and emotionally by their families – just not by each other.

The idea of Hooked was great, and had so much potential, but the characters and the lack of sense of realism really underwhelmed me. It’s like the author was continually hinting at something that could have been, but never really was.

Hooked Catherine Greenman Books Reviews

I just read Hooked in like 2 1/2 days....it was a very very very good book!! I would read it again and again!! I would definitively recommend this book if you like books with romance in it!! I would have to read another book by Catherine Greenman! She's my new favorite author!
That's it. Hooked. I finished in within a couple of hours. I would definitely recommend this book. It is amazing.
Although the book didn't end the way i had hoped. It was a great book! I would probably suggest this book to teens!
Honestly this book was amazing. A story of a girl who finds herself while figuring out how to be a mom, at the same time finding and following her own dream! A little slow but in a way that had you on the edge of your seat waiting to turn the page.
Greenman wrote this book wonderfully. I was extremely pleased and it is definitely one of the best books I read all summer.
In my opinion, I thought the author rushed the beginning. After the first two chapters, I was finally able to get into the book, then after she had the baby, it got boring and I had a difficult time finishing the book. I wouldn't recommend this book or the author.
This was a gritty yet funny at time contemporary. I think that we get a unique view into being pregnant and being a teen mom, and I think that it's an important message. As much as Thea tries at times, she cannot romanticize the idea, especially when her boyfriend Will makes it where she can't stay with him for a while. Though I liked this book and what it tried to convey, I was left feeling like there is nothing that will make me remember it a year from now. I still think that its worth reading.
I think that all aspects of characters were done well, Thea was fleshed out, and she had things I could relate to, perfections and faults alike. Will was dreamy at first and then gave a real picture of what happens a lot when a girl gets pregnant and there is a child brought into that relationship at such a young age. Thea's parents are far from perfect, but I really liked how her dad stepped up in the end whereas I wouldn't have expected that. I got to read about a dynamic that is not all that present in the books I read, the father daughter one.
I also like the stages the book goes through, we get to see the beginning and development of Thea's relationship with Will, and how she is completely hooked on him-to the extent that she doesn't really pay much attention to anything else. What a familiar feeling that is though, the new relationship and the obsession.
This book took on a whole other dimension with Thea's crocheting. It interested me because I can crochet a bit, and it played a role in a book of helping her to distract herself and also in the end helping to find herself some.
The ending wasn't tied up completely, but I think that is also life, and hers really was just beginning, so I think that is fitting in its own aspects.
