Seeking Solace eBook Adrienne Dunning
For the first time in car too long, I read a romance that features an educated, intelligent heroine who shows backbone. The hero of this delightful romance isn't the all too typical, womanizing billionaire. He's not a billionaire at all. How refreshing. They meet, they initiate a friendship, they fall in lust, and then in love. While there's no real action or suspense, the intimacy of the story saves it from vapid sweetness. The story focuses on the relationship, not on outside forces or manufactured conflict. Aside from a handful of punctuation errors, the editing is clean. Well done.Tags : Amazon.com: Seeking Solace eBook: Adrienne Dunning: Kindle Store, ebook,Adrienne Dunning,Seeking Solace,ViridianFire Publications,Fiction Contemporary Women,Fiction Romance General
Seeking Solace eBook Adrienne Dunning Reviews
Seeking Solace is more than a love story, its about finding yourself, finding your place in the world, and making your own decisions. It is also about finding love where you least expect it.
Upon leaving the states for Scotland, Sarah, isn't expecting anything special. She wants time to herself, time to move on and figure out what she wants to do next in her life. She needs to figure out who she is now, and how she wants to proceed in her life.
Bretton, a local pub owner/band member, finds himself drawn to Sarah and has a serious need to know all about her and why she's in Scotland. Bret has his own past, things that hurt him, things he regrets, but he's more 'go with the flow' so he doesn't really allow the past to affect current decisions, something his friends worry for him over.
As Sarah and Bret get to know each other, it is clear that they may just have found their perfect match, but can it work out? Is Sarah able to make the choice to stay in Scotland over returning home to give a relationship a fair chance?
I enjoyed that this story focused on Sarah finding herself as a whole and not just the love story brewing between her and Bret. It was beautiful to see Sarah standing up for herself and taking a stand for her future needs/desires. Finding friends, a place to belong, and falling in love made this story work for the characters and I enjoyed the steps of the journey.
I rate the story 3.5 stars, so rounding up to 4. *I was provided a copy of this book for review. All thoughts are my own*
I was pulled into Sarah's emotional turmoil right from the start of Seeking Solace. Dunning used her words to weave a beautiful and engaging story, causing me to be swept away into the peace of the Scottish countryside.
Sarah's father's phone call shattered that peace with expectations and a plan for her future that had me furious. The conversation with Bret that followed really gave me a great glimpse into his painful past. I felt for both of them and wanted so badly for them to hold tightly to what was blossoming between them.
As the clock was ticking down on Sarah's time in Scotland, I was on the edge of my seat. I knew what I wanted her to do and I wanted to see things work out for her with minimal family interruption. I was excited by the opportunities presenting themselves and wanted Sarah to grab onto happiness with two hands and never let go.
When she received a surprise visitor at the Manor, I was shocked and even more so by the events that followed. I also felt pride at the fearless way with which she handled the obstacles in her way.
The ending was lovely and even more than I had hoped.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Adrienne Dunning.
Life is what you make it and sometimes the toughest step to take is the first because once those wheels are in motion there is no turning back.
This was the case with Sarah Collier because she knows all too well what it was like to lead a life that has always been perfectly scripted and in some respects my heart broke for her but I was internally whooping when her penny dropped on the one day that everyone was supposed to be singing from the same hymn page – literally!
Because far from following the script, Sarah took her life under her control and walked away! Leaving everything she as ever know behind she sets off on what was meant to be her honeymoon – into the unknown she is finally doing what she wants and I was delighted that she had finally out herself first.
The author did an amazing job in her portrayal of Sarah, I liked her and was almost immediately invested in the journey she was taking. I wanted her to have everything that she needed and deserved and to finally spread her wings and fly – I just didn’t expect that Berwick in southern Scotland would be the place that she would finally find what she needed, then again I doubt she did either.
Bretton is the local pub landlord and the appearance of this pretty stranger in the town certainly draws his attention but is his interest only titillation and amusement or is there something else with him.
I found Bretton a curious character, he has a past that seemed to have a hold on him that was stopping him from taking the steps forward that I was begging him to take – honestly I was internally pleading with him to cut not only himself but Sarah some slack and live for the moment, but then again when you have liked the life that Sarah had – could she finally accept that what happened next for her was her call to make – would she finally tell her family where to get off their high horse and be the woman that she wanted and the woman that Bretton needed, could she make him see that just because he had been hurt before, he could trust her to never hurt him.
I was entranced by the characters and their story, by what they had both been through, by the pain that they both carried with them and by the fact that they were doing what they could to start afresh but I adored the pure romance of their situation – may no bones about it – this is an out and out romance and you will be well placed to make yourself comfortable and allow the author to transport you into the wilds of a the Scottish countryside.
This was a beautifully written, superbly evocative and heart-warmingly romantic read – thoroughly recommended.
I absolutely loved this story! I would recommend this to everyone!
What I liked the setting, all the characters, the theme
What kept me from reading this story until I was down to my last book the cover. PLEASE CHANGE THE COVER
What the writing did that kept it from being a better read details of the inconsequential (picked up remote from the table)... and not enough detail of the area. I would have liked a better feel of the pub!
I really never felt Sarah had an identity. Maybe that was the plan, but it kept me disconnected as a reader from the main character.
Loved Bret!
